Otherwise known as "round robin" format or an "all play all" format, our division format is where all teams in the division play all other teams in the division a number of times. For example in an 8 team division, if all teams play each other twice then each team will play 14 matches.
All results within a division format count towards the division standings.
Create divisions when
- all teams play each other a number of times e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4
- teams between the divisions play against each other (optional)
- you have a group stage cup format and have more than 6 teams in each group
If you have a knockout cup format at the end of the division matches e.g. for a playoff then still create divisions, you can create a cup afterwards
For the following formats then create a cup:
Single Knockout Cup
Otherwise known as "single elimination", "knockout", or "sudden death tournament". (Wikipedia definition https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-elimination_tournament ) The loser of each match-up is eliminated from the tournament. Each winner will play another team in the next round, until the final match, where the winner becomes the tournament champion.
Double / Triple Elimination Cups
A double elimination cup has two stages - the winners stage and the losers stage. If a team loses in the winner stage, it then joins the losers stage. If a team loses twice then they will be eliminated. (Wikipedia definition https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-elimination_tournament )
A triple elimination cup has a third stage, where the losing teams in the losers stage play.
For this format then create a single knockout cup and then add stages for each elimination stage. https://help.leaguerepublic.com/cups/adding-an-elimination-stage-to-a-cup
Group Stage Cups
A group stage format is where there is a stage with a number of groups / divisions. each team in the groups plays all other teams once or twice and then the teams advance to a knockout phase.
Only create a group stage cup if you have 6 or less teams in each division and you will not be able to use the schedulers to schedule, manage the matches. Create divisions instead and add a knockout stage later.
Other Cup Formats
Our system is flexible in that you can add any number of stages to a cup manually. You can add group stages / knockout stages to any part of the cup.
If you want to record friendlies or matches where the results don't count for anything then create "other matches".
If you have a ladder format where winners advance above losers in the league standings then create a division and set the ladder format in
